Recent government installation valuations have included the 4th Cliff Military Reservation. The property was first developed by the government as a
coastal defense battery fort for Massachusetts Bay, with two control fire towers, a subterranean bunker and two ten inch gun stations. Subsequent uses included long wave radio research Navy Station in the 1950's until finally being granted to the Air Force as a rest and recreation facility.
Operating as a military beach resort the defense improvements remain in place, with the exception of the guns. Other improvements
include a village of detached dwellings, central support facilities and a stand alone utility district. The valuation included both the present use application as well as a valuation of the highest and best use.
